Vegetation & Landscape

Defensible Space

Create an essential buffer between your home and the vegetation that can carry wildfire directly to the structure.

  • CSFS-aligned zones from 0-5 ft, 5-30 ft, and beyond
  • Ladder-fuel removal
  • Tree thinning and pruning
  • Strategic plant spacing
  • Reduced fire intensity around the structure

Properly managed defensible space slows wildfire spread, reduces fire intensity, and creates safer working conditions for firefighters.

Frequently Asked

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does wildfire mitigation cost in Colorado? +
Cost depends on lot size, slope, existing vegetation density, and how much home hardening is involved. A flat quarter-acre lot with light landscaping runs far less than a forested acre on a hillside near Evergreen or Golden. Use our cost calculator for a ballpark figure, or request a free assessment for an exact quote.
Will mitigation work actually lower my homeowners insurance? +
It can, but the documentation matters as much as the work itself. Under Colorado HB25-1182, insurers must consider verified mitigation when setting rates and non-renewal decisions. We provide a formal mitigation report formatted for underwriters so the work you paid for actually counts in that conversation.
What is defensible space and do I need all three zones? +
Defensible space is the buffer of managed vegetation around your home, divided into three zones from 0 to over 100 feet. Most properties need attention in all three, but the scope in each zone depends on your slope, lot size, and proximity to wildland-urban interface areas. We assess your specific property rather than applying a one-size-fits-all plan.
How is home hardening different from defensible space? +
Defensible space manages the vegetation and fuel around your home. Home hardening addresses the structure itself, ember-resistant vents, Class A roofing, non-combustible siding and decking, so embers and radiant heat can't ignite the house directly. The two work together; most Colorado properties need both for full protection.
Do you work with HOAs on community-wide programs? +
Yes. We coordinate mitigation across multiple properties in a community, standardize the assessment criteria board members can point to, and produce the documentation HOAs need for insurance conversations and county fire program compliance.
How soon can you schedule an assessment? +
In most cases within a week of your call, depending on the season and your location along the Front Range. Call (303) 304-9997 or request a free assessment and we'll confirm a date.
